1 June 2026A key milestone was recently reached at Cork’s Railyard Apartments project – a development by JCD Group, Cluid and Cork City Council, delivered by PJ Hegarty & Sons as main contractor. At the end of March 2026, our slipform rig topped out at level 25, reaching a height of 85.5 metres, making it officially the tallest building on the entire island of Ireland. With the completion of the lift and stair core of the main tower, the structure is now taller than Belfast’s Obel Tower and beats out College Square in Dublin by three stories.
Most notably, this height was reached in just over 10 days of continuous pouring (over 1,700m3), with Ireland’s tallest tower crane from Liebherr working furiously to lift the 225 tonnes of reinforcing steel ever higher and higher each day and night. The 24/7 operation was successfully completed to schedule and to the highest standards of both safety and quality. We’d especially like to thank Roadstone Ltd. for their crucial partnership in maintaining a constant supply of fresh concrete; instrumental in the project’s success.
Once again, our crew delivered exceptional results, exceeding expectations across safety, quality, and efficiency. This achievement reflects not only the expertise of our site team, but
also the strength of our pre-planning, scheduling, and design input.
With the completion of this Slipform, the scale and ambition of the development is now apparent. A big thank you to everyone who delivered this milestone together with us.
